As the Islamic State spreads its violent caliphate raping, torturing and killing those who don’t bow to Allah, Christians in the area are fleeing through a modern “underground railroad.”

Hundreds of non Muslims, most of them Christian, who are fleeing the areas in or around ISIS’ control are coming to the U.S. through Mexico, CNN reports.

Mark Arabo, president and CEO of the Neighborhood Market Association, is an Iraqi-American Christian who runs the railroad helping Christian refugees come to America. The entire trip takes about two months, costs an estimated $25,000 for a family of four people, and involves several anonymous people connected to Adabo across the world.

“ISIS only knows the language of beheading,” a Christian man fleeing ISIS who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of ISIS told CNN. When asked “why you?” the man said, “Because we’re Christians.”

Once the refugees get to Mexico they apply for asylum in America. Many are walking across the U.S. border, turning themselves in, and hoping they get approved for asylum.

“The underground railroad wasn’t our first choice,” Adabo told The San Diego Tribune. “It was our last choice.”

The U.S. has announced it will accept 100,000 refugees annually by 2017.

Critics say this could open the door for ISIS operatives to sneak into the U.S. and carry out attacks, but Adabo dismisses that claim.
