[crscore]Harry Reid[/crscore], the Democratic minority leader, said Thursday he thinks Republican presidential candidate [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore] should resign from the Senate.

Reid, who seems to enjoy injecting himself into Republican presidential politics, made the comments as Republican candidate Jeb Bush has criticized Rubio for missing Senate votes while campaigning.

“Why shouldn’t he? He hates the Senate,” Reid told Politico when asked whether Rubio should resign. “Why should the taxpayers of this country and people of Florida put up with having only one senator? Doesn’t seem fair to me.”

Rubio’s spokesman, Alex Conant, responded on Twitter: “I don’t remember Harry Reid calling on Obama to resign in 2008. Dem leaders are afraid Marco will beat Clinton!”

One of the more memorable parts of Wednesday’s Republican debate in Colorado involved Bush going after Rubio on the issue.

“You can campaign, or just resign and let someone else take the job,” Bush said. “There are a lot of people living paycheck to paycheck in Florida as well. They are looking for a senator that will fight for them each and every day.”

Rubio responded to Bush: “I don’t remember you ever complaining about John McCain’s vote record. The only reason why you’re doing it now is because we’re running for the same position, and someone has convinced you that attacking me is going to help you.”
