  • Louisiana Gov. and GOP presidential hopeful Bobby Jindal announced yesterday that he will suspend his campaign. Jindal has struggled to gain traction since his initial campaign announcment on June 24 – he often failed to poll at even 1% in some surveys.slate
  • Two of Ben Carson‘s top advisers are knocking his ability to grasp foreign policy despite aggressive tutoring sessions, according to a report in The New York Times yesterday. Duane Clarridge, a top adviser to Carson on terrorism and national security, told the newspaper nobody has been successfully able to sit down with the doctor to get even just a little bit of information across. Armstrong Williams, one of Carson’s lead advisers, also expressed frustration to NYT, particularly regarding Carson’s bombed FOX News Sunday appearance in which the good doctor froze after being asked to name a single country for his “international coalition” to defeat ISIS.
  • GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a new spokesperson. Katrina Pierson, who is notorious for pushing the bounds of “normal” political discourse (more so than Trump, Politico pointed out yesterday), will help deliver the real estate mogul’s message from here on out. She plans to do so on camera and on social media. Pierson was once a Ted Cruz loyalist and stood on stage with him the night of his U.S. Senate election in 2012.katrina pierson
  • Speaking of Ted Cruz, the Texas senator said on Wednesday that if U.S. President Barack Obama doesn’t like what he has to say, then he should “come back and insult me to my face,” reported NBC News this morning. On Monday, Obama openly criticized Cruz’s proposal for handling the Syrian refugee crisis, which included allowing in Syrian Christians, but not Syrian Muslims. The president made his comments at the G20 Summit in Antalya, Turkey.
  • In an interview with Rolling Stone released this morning, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said that, while he does know Hillary after 25 years in politics, they aren’t, you know, best friends. He then went on to praise Clinton’s intelligence and experience. That’ll show ’em who’s boss, Bernie.Bernie
