Theresa Vail is apologizing for illegally shooting an Alaskan grizzly bear and trying to cover it up.
An Alaska State Trooper said the former Miss Kansas and two guides were charged with misdemeanors after she shot the bear and tagged it incorrectly.
“This May, during an Alaskan guided bear hunt, I unintentionally harvested a second bear while attempting a follow up shot,” Vail said in a statement Wednesday.
“I then followed poor advice and allowed the second bear to be improperly tagged.” (RELATED: Nude Photo Scandal Confuses Vanessa Williams And Miss America Pageant)
“A few days later, the film crew and I reported the incident and have since fully cooperated with the proper authorities.”
“I am deeply sorry for my mistakes.”
Vail now works as a host for the Outdoor Channel, and in an interview earlier this year, she said she was proud of what she does.
“I fully believe that teaching a woman how to use a gun is the best thing you can do for her and for her confidence and her personal empowerment,” Vail said.
“That’s when I became completely confident in defending and protecting myself. The Second Amendment is my life.” (PHOTOS: Hot Beauty Queen Who Lost Title For Racy Photos Arrested For METH Trafficking)
