A leading Democratic congressman warned Iran’s seizure of two U.S. Navy boats and their crews Tuesday could jeopardize the Iran nuclear deal.

New York Rep. [crscore]Eliot Engel[/crscore], ranking member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, says Iran must free the 10 sailors or risk stalling the nuclear deal.

“I think it endangers everything, I really do,” says Engel to the Washington Examiner, “I’m outraged, and Iran needs to release these people as soon as possible or else it would be unthinkable or impossible to make further progress with them on anything as far as I am concerned.”

The sailors were detained by Iran while they were traveling from Kuwait to the island nation of Bahrain. (RELATED: Iran Is Holding Two US Navy Boats, Says It Will Release Crews Shortly)
