WASHINGTON — House minority leader Nancy Pelosi told The Daily Caller on Wednesday that she believes the five Americans still held in Iran are “high priorities” for the Obama administration.

“I don’t think this administration has ever appeased Iran. If you’re asking me if they’re doing it, no, I don’t think they are. And I do think these Americans’ names are brought up in every meeting as a very high priority. I was honored yesterday to have the brother of The Washington Post reporter come to my office last night during our reception, before the president’s speech and, obviously, we have all been trying to weigh in wherever we can on the subject,” Pelosi said.

She added, “But the president did mention a number of things last night. We do know they mentioned it at the table where it counts, and that is in any negotiations we’re having with Iran. It is a very high priority for many of us.”

The California Democrat credits the nuclear deal the administration struck with the Iranian regime as the reason 10 U.S. sailors were released from custody Wednesday.

“The fact is they are free. They have been – they’re back. It happened quickly,” Pelosi told CNN’s “New Day” on Wednesday. “And I think the diplomacy in the treaty and the fact that the implementation day is imminent all weighed in to make this something that was resolved as quickly as possible.”

President Obama not only did not mention U.S. sailors who were held captive by the Iranian regime for one night during his State of the Union address Tuesday night, he did not discuss the five Americans who have been held by Iran between four months and 9 years for a variety of reasons.

The sailors, who were accused by Iran for navigating into the country’s waters Tuesday night, were detained and later released Wednesday morning, but their small crafts were seized by Iran. The regime released photos and videos of the sailors in captivity.
