Presidential candidate Donald Trump nailed down a key endorsement Friday when he secured the support of Jimmy McMillan, better known as the founder of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party.

McMillan, of course, is famous for his appearance at a 2010 New York gubernatorial debate, where the self-proclaimed “karate expert” declared that rent was, well, too damn high.

McMillan is a serial candidate, and besides running for governor of New York four times, he has also repeatedly ran for mayor of New York, and in 2012 he made a play for the presidency. But this time around, McMillan is staying out of the fray, and has instead thrown his support behind Trump.

As the New York Daily News notes, even a single-bedroom apartment in New York’s Trump Tower will run about $6,000 a month. (RELATED: ‘The Rent Is Too Damn High’ Candidate Is Getting Evicted From His Rent-Controlled Apartment)

But McMillan says Trump’s high rent was outweighed by his concern for veterans’ issues. McMillan himself is a Vietnam veteran.

“He’s the only one who is supporting my brother veterans which is good enough for me,” McMillan told the Daily News Friday. “America needs change.”

McMillan told the Daily News that he envisioned Trump as a potential running mate in 2012, but that may be a bit of revisionism on McMillan’s part. During the run itself, McMillan had agreed that Vermin Supreme of the Free Pony Party would be his vice president should he be elected.
