Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced an executive order Tuesday forbidding state agencies from complying with President Barack Obama’s now-stayed climate regulations.

The U.S. Supreme Court put the skids to the president’s so-called Clean Power Plan (CPP) in a 5-4 vote a week ago — so the Court, which is currently one justice shy after Antonin Scalia’s death on Sunday, will have the opportunity to rule on the plan’s legality in the future.

Walker told reporters Tuesday that the Supreme Court’s decision validated his concerns about the plan, which, in its current form, mandates states ratchet down their carbon emission output 32 percent by 2030.

Opposition to the CPP has grown by leaps and fits, with 29 states so far planning to opt out of the plan. And now Wisconsin will join that group in opposing Obama’s overarching climate rules.

The American Energy Alliance, a free market energy group, sent out what “stop work” orders to all state governors, requesting they refuse to comply with the EPA-administered plans until the its legality can be determined.

“This ‘Stop Work’ approach is the best way for state leaders to protect their citizens from the higher energy costs and job losses that this unlawful regulation would undoubtedly cause,” Thomas Pyle, president of the American Energy Alliance, said in a statement.
