A Sunday New York Times blog post claimed that after Marco Rubio’s poor Super Saturday performance, the Republican race has boiled down to “two extremists,” Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

“The most interesting developments in Saturday’s primary contests centered on Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Bernie Sanders, in that order,” wrote Elizabeth Williamson. “Not ‘interesting’ meaning ‘game-changing,’ at least not yet. Just interesting — and it was nice not to have to include Donald Trump in that list.”

Williamson further explained that “it’s likely lights-out for Mr. Rubio” if he can’t win his home state of Florida on March 15.

“One can hope that the least extreme GOP contender, John Kasich, gets the surge he keeps predicting he will as key Midwestern states weigh in over the next week,” she added. “But if not, the Republican contest will soon boil down to a race between two extremists.”
