As the referendum campaign on whether Britain remains in or leaves the European Union — known as Brexit — heats up, a documentary filmmaker has thrown his weight behind getting Britain out of the EU.

Managing director of the independent production company WAG TV Martin Durkin is on a mission to make a film on why Britain should withdraw from the EU and what life would look like outside. (RELATED: What is Brexit? Everything You Need To Know About Britain’s EU Referendum)

After successfully raising almost $200,000 on Kickstarter, “Brexit: The Movie” will be made and shown before the referendum, which will be held Jun.23.

Durkin has a colorful political past, having been involved with the Revolutionary Communist Party in his youth, but he is now a staunch libertarian frequently arguing in public and in his documentaries for free markets and free trade as the most effective way to help the poor.

Durkin’s latest project comes at a time when Britain faces the biggest constitutional choice in 40 years. The film aims to investigate the institutions of the EU to reveal the vast amounts of waste and corruption that blight Brussels.

The film will argue that Britain’s economic prospects are far brighter outside of a highly regulated and protectionist EU, and that the British people should reassert their right of self-government and take back powers that have been ceded to Brussels.

“We’re at a crucial moment in British history, with a referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union fast approaching,” says the film’s Facebook page. “As the EU continues on its imperialist path and lurches from crisis to crisis, it is clear that continued membership is not in Britain’s best interests. Far from reliant on the EU for our nation’s prosperity, we would flourish outside of it.”

“The outcome of this referendum depends on convincing the undecided voters. The case for Brexit is overwhelming when it’s properly told – but that there’s so much to say, getting the point across isn’t always easy.”
