During an interview with his former costar Mario Lopez on Tuesday, the actor — who played Screech on “Saved by the Bell” — opened up about his time in prison.

“I want to put the tomfoolery and malarkey behind me for that clean slate,” Diamond said. “Time for a change.” (RELATED: ‘Saved By The Bell’s’ Screech Is Going To Trial For Stabbing)

“It’s pretty daunting, it’s pretty scary going into the environment,” he continued. “I found that as long as you follow the rules and stay with the system, it works. You can get in and out unscathed.”

Diamond was sentenced to four months in prison after he pulled a pocket knife on someone during a bar fight on Christmas Day in 2014. (RELATED: Saved By The Cell? ‘Screech’ Gets Jail Time For Bar Stabbing)

He was released after three months after he had a job as a janitor.

“I had my pocket knife like this,” he told Lopez, “And the blade was right here and the guy came from around me and grabbed my throat, and he nicked his arm on the tip of it — it was a Band-Aid, the most expensive Band-Aid I’ve ever bought.”
