A West Virginia couple walked up to a house full of strangers and attempted to sell their baby on May 28, Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, according to Fox 5 DC.
The couple was trying to sell the child for between $500 and $1,000. But when the occupants of the house refused to buy the child, the couple fled and left their child behind.
“Law enforcement officers frequently deal with some pretty strange situations,” Sheriff Steve Kessler said, Fox 5 reports. “A situation like this is really out of the ordinary, though.”
The child was later found at the home where she had been abandoned and was taken to the hospital before being placed in foster care. The child’s biological father is currently attempting to gain custody.
