Though perhaps not as iconic as James Bond, Jack Bauer still remains one of the most popular international spysters in pop culture. That’s why you may be seeing the character again in the very near future.

“24: Legacy” executive producer Howard Gordon revealed that if actor Kiefer Sutherland is up for it, there is a plan to bring his action star back into the fold.

While the general arc of season one is already in place, Gordon told Deadline that he has conjured up a specific storyline for Jack Bauer that would make sense within the context of the new show. The plan is for the character to re-appear during the second half of season one, allowing Sutherland enough time to complete his work on new series “Designated Survivor,” where he plays the President.

But will Sutherland return?

In the past, he has claimed that he was done with the “24” franchise. However, the actor recently offered a ray of hope, admitting that he’d consider a return in a limited role. That’s what he can expect in this spinoff and it would go a long way in helping this new show find an audience quickly.

“24: Legacy” will follow Corey Hawkins’ Eric Carter, an ex-Army Ranger experienced in black ops, who returns to the United States only for his work overseas to follow him home. In order to keep his loved ones safe, Carter recruits the help of former CTU boss Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto) and CTU itself to stop a series of threats.

“24: Legacy” will debut on FOX on (Super Bowl) Sunday, February 5, 2017.
