Bill Kristol, editor of “The Weekly Standard,” blasted the Democratic talking points of “senseless gun violence” arguing that “it’s not senseless gun violence, it’s jihad.”

In light of the terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida, publisher of the left-leaning magazine “The Nation” Katrina Vanden Heuvel and Former vice chair of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile tried to pivot the conversation to gun control instead of Islamic terrorism on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. Vanden Heuvel said, “We can’t lose sight of senseless gun violence and the gun epidemic in the country. 66 people killed in Chicago in May. Hillary Clinton has a very strong gun control program. [Donald] Trump, he’s tethered to the NRA.” (RELATED: 50 Dead, 53 Injured In Orlando Shooting — FBI Investigating Terror Ties)

Brazile added, “We’ve had so many mass shootings this year. Since 2013, we have had over 1,000 mass shootings. And clearly, there’s a place today in the dialogue for us to talk about the tone and temperament of our national leaders… Talking about politics and tone, it matters because you’re looking for a leader. Somebody who can bring us together.” (RELATED: Trump Calls For Moratorium On Muslims Entering United States)

Kristol replied, “Look, I’m anti-Trump. But if this was an act of Islamic terrorism… [and if the shooter] was motivated by Islamist jihadist ideology, these talking points are not going to work. Donald Trump, the best moment, I say this with regret: the moment that helped Trump win the nomination is the San Bernardino massacre and his calling for a ban on all Muslims.”

He went on to say that Trump’s plan was “insane, bad public policy, undoable, and we shouldn’t do it. Having said that, it helped him. And I think we shouldn’t kid ourselves and frankly, if these are the Democratic talking points here, ‘senseless gun violence,’ it’s not senseless gun violence, it’s jihad.”
