Hours after news broke that Omar Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS right before his murderous rampage Vice President Joe Biden professed utter bewilderment about the inspiration.

In his statement around 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday Biden, like President Barack Obama earlier in the day, avoided mentioning ISIS or Islam. Instead he labeled the mass slaughter “an act of pure hate and unspeakable terror.”

“Jill and I offer our prayers and deepest condolences for all those affected by today’s horrific events,” the veep said. “But our prayers are not enough to end these kinds of senseless mass shootings.”

Hello, Mr. Vice President?

School shootings are senseless and perpetrated by psychotic individuals with no particular ideology. From the perspective of ISIS and many devout Muslims the attack made a tremendous amount of sense. The magnitude and “soft target” location was particularly horrifying.

The shooting only does not make “sense” to people who pretend Muslim terrorism is unconnected to Islam.

True to form Biden played dumb. “Our law enforcement and intelligence professionals are still gathering the facts, and we do not yet know what, if any, connection or inspiration there may be with terrorist organizations.”

May be?
