WASHINGTON — Republicans in Congress want to deny Hillary Clinton access to classified information while she is on the campaign trail.
House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters Wednesday he wants Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to withhold briefings about national security issues that presidential candidates usually receive.
[dcquiz] FBI Director James Comey announced Tuesday that the FBI will not urge the Justice Department to bring charges against Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information on her private e-mail server during her time as Secretary of State.
Comey is expected to testify before the House Oversight committee on Thursday to explain his decision not to urge criminal charges against Clinton or others associated to the FBI investigation.
Additionally, Republican Wyoming Senator John Barrasso said Wednesday that Senate Republicans will put forth a bill to reject security clearances to anyone involved with the Clinton e-mail server controversy, including Clinton herself.
“After the convention, you get the full, deep classified information,” Ryan said. “I think the DNI, Clapper, should deny Hillary Clinton access to classified information during this campaign given how she so recklessly handled classified information.”
