Dallas police are reporting that three suspects involved in the attacks on 11 police officers during a protest are now in custody, while one remains at large engaged in a gun fight with police.

Two snipers fired on police from an elevated position during a protest in Dallas, Texas Thursday night, according to multiple reports. Currently, five of the 11 officers shot are dead.

Police are also currently investigating a suspicious package that was located near one of the apprehended suspects. One of the suspects warned police during negotiations that bombs were planted around the city.

Dallas PD engaged in a car chase with a potential suspect in a black Mercedes along Interstate 35. Both the suspect and another passenger are currently in police custody.

A second suspect reportedly turned himself in to police.

A man’s picture was previously circulated and reported to be the suspected shooter, but his brother came forward and claimed that he is not one of the shooters, and was only displaying his AR-15 during the protest as part of his Second Amendment rights. The brother claims the rifle was turned in to police after the shooting began.

A local source on the ground in downtown Dallas told The Daily Caller News Foundation that FBI officials were called to the scene, possibly to investigate the suspicious package. The downtown portion of the city itself is currently still under lockdown.

Several news sources reported at approximately 1 a.m. that the danger to the public was over.

(Editor’s note: Updated to reflect three suspects are reportedly in custody)
