Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took his feud with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to a whole new level late Tuesday night with a tweet demanding she resign.

“Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me,” Trump tweeted. “Her mind is shot — resign!”

The resignation demand is the latest salvo in a week-long war of words between Ginsburg and Trump, a spat which was initiated by the justice. In two separate interviews last week, Ginsburg indicated she was not happy about the prospect of Trump becoming the next president and joked about moving to New Zealand if he should come to occupy the White House. She made her criticism of Trump much more explicit during a Monday CNN interview. “He is a faker,” the jurist declared. “He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego.” She also attacked the Republican candidate for not releasing his tax returns.

Trump, in response, said Ginsburg’s comments were a disgrace in a New York Times interview Tuesday morning. “I think it’s highly inappropriate that a United States Supreme Court judge gets involved in a political campaign, frankly,” he said. “I think it’s a disgrace to the court and I think she should apologize to the court. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it.”

Ginsburg’s comments are unprecedented for a Supreme Court justice, as those who hold the office traditionally keep their thoughts about presidential elections private in an attempt to uphold the neutrality of the court.
