6-Year-Old Shot In Shocking Crime Spree Leaving Six Injured, One Dead In DC

Six people were shot and one is dead after a crime wave ravaged Washington, D.C. this past weekend.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) found two people suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle in southwest D.C.. The shooting occurred on Interstate 295 near Firth Sterling Avenue SE at roughly 2:30 a.m., reports WJLA.

Authorities transported both of the wounded individuals to a local area hospital. Judonne Stephens, 25, from northeast D.C., succumbed to his wounds Sunday and police opened a homicide investigation, but there is no information on possible suspects.

A six-year-old was among the victims this past weekend, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg. The shooting occurred at roughly 5 p.m. at Barry Farm in southeast D.C.. Police responded to the scene and found the boy near a playground conscious and breathing. Authorities have not released any information on a suspect, reports WUSA9.

The violence continued into Sunday evening with a double-shooting and stabbing. Two people were shot at roughly 1:25 p.m. in southeast D.C. near the intersection of Ridge Road and Eli Place. Police found the men conscious and breathing and are looking for four heavily armed black suspects in a brown Kia SUV. (RELATED: Rash Of Overnight Shootings Across DC Leave Two Dead)

Additionally, a black man described as having a heavy build stabbed a man in southeast D.C. near Greenway at 3:45 p.m. and left the scene of the crime on a Segway. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

With 73 confirmed homicides across the city, at least 38 of which remain unsolved, D.C. is experiencing a violent year. The District witnessed a staggering 53 percent spike in the murder rate in 2015, the highest murder rate in eight years. The alarming surge in homicides continues into 2016, tracking closely with last year’s figures.
