Another Shooting In DC Leaves Man Dead

A man is dead after being shot multiple times on Georgia Avenue in northwest Washington, D.C., Monday evening.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the shooting and found a man suffering critical wounds in a parking lot. The shooting happened at roughly 7:10 p.m. on the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue in northwest D.C. near 16th Street Heights. Authorities took the unidentified man to the hospital where he succumb to the gunshot wounds, reports The Washington Post.

A local recreation center and shopping area are on the same block as the site of the fatal shooting. Georgia Avenue and the surrounding blocks have been the site of multiple shootings in recent days. One man suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound Friday night on Georgia Avenue and a person was shot Saturday near the area on Illinois Avenue. A man was murdered in northwest D.C. Monday night at 7:37 p.m. at 2nd and E Street near Chinatown. The unidentified victim suffered a fatal stabbing wound and was pronounced dead at a local area hospital. Police arrested the suspect in the stabbing but have not released further details, reports WUSA9.

D.C. is suffering a violent year, with 79 homicides across the city. The District experienced a staggering 53 percent spike in the murder rate in 2015, the highest rate in eight years. The alarming surge in homicides continues into 2016, tracking closely with last year’s figures. There were a total of 105 homicides in 2014.
