Cory Cogdell won a bronze medal in women’s trap shooting at the Olympics on Sunday, but her win is being overshadowed by cries of sexism.
After Cogdell won a shoot-off against Spain’s Fatima Galvez, the Chicago Tribune ran the headline, “Corey Cogdell, wife of Bears lineman Mitch Unrein, wins bronze in Rio.”
Critics said the article was sexist because it failed to mention her name or what sport she medaled in, and instead placed the focus on her husband.
@chicagotribune wow if only she had a name or something like a man

@chicagotribune then why not refer to her by her name rather than who her husband is?

@chicagotribune If winning her own Olympic medal doesn’t get a woman her own headline, what will?!

“In the last year and a half, I have really been at the top of my sport,” Cogdell said in a statement. “So, I felt confident coming into this and I knew if I executed, I could come away with a medal.”
