An angry mob of animal rights activists stripped a man naked and beat him for attempting to sell a video of himself sexually assaulting a dog, reports the Shanghaiist.

China does not have any animal rights laws to prevent abuse, and that has given the depraved a lot of leeway for some really weird stuff.

A video of a man dragging a dog behind a car until it died went viral in early August, reports the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The same day that video came out, the Shanghaiist released WeChat snapshots from a shocking conversation in which a man admitted to killing 50 dogs, and showed horrifying pictures and videos of him torturing dogs by beating them and knocking their teeth out.

These are just a few of the many Chinese animal cruelty cases that occur each year.

In a recent bout of extreme animal abuse, a Chinese man from Guizhou attempted to sell a video of himself raping a female dog in a twisted online chat group dedicated to providing tips and tricks for torturing animals, Sina Sichuan revealed. In addition to selling videos, the man also reportedly invited other netizens to come over to his house for a dog beating and rape session. Feeling generous, the man offered this disgusting service to his fans free of charge.

The man’s flagrant disregard for animal rights pushed China’s animal rights activists over the edge.

Pretending to be fellow dog torturers, activists went online and set up a meeting with the man for Aug. 20. When he showed up at the designated location in Chengdu, a mob rushed the man, tore his clothes off, and beat him violently in the street. While some people kicked the man and hit him with sticks, others stood nearby holding signs denouncing animal cruelty.

Local police arrested the man and the activists who attacked him.

Extreme incidents of violence against animals have outraged Chinese citizens, causing an animal rights movement to emerge in China. As pressure grows, the Chinese government may be forced to re-evaluate its lack of laws for the prevention of animal abuse.

“Already, Chinese society is divided into two camps – animal lovers and their opponents. Their conflict could develop into social unrest if the government continues to tolerate animal cruelty,” author Peter Li told the SCMP.
