In her speech addressing Republican nominee Donald Trump’s affiliation with the “alt right,” Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton claimed he is to blame for an alleged rise in school bullying.

“Next time you watch Donald Trump rant on television, think about all the kids listening across our country. They hear a lot more than we think,” Clinton said during her speech in Reno, Nev. “Parents and teachers are already worried about what they’re calling the ‘Trump effect.'”

The “Trump effect,” Clinton said, is directly to blame for a surge in bullying. (RELATED: What Is The Alt Right?)

“Bullying and harassment are on the rise in our schools, especially targeting students of color, Muslims, and immigrants,” she claimed. She cited only a single example, when high schoolers in Indiana taunted their opponents in a basketball game with chants of “Build the wall!”

“We wouldn’t tolerate that kind of behavior in our own homes. How can we stand for it from a candidate for president?” she asked.

Clinton didn’t come up with the alleged Trump-bullying connection herself. The Southern Poverty Law Center, a progressive activist group, posited the existence of the “Trump effect” in an April report. In May, American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten made the same claim, using terms very similar to those used in Clinton’s speech.
