Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Tuesday a lot of his campaign cash came from his own coffers instead of supporters.
“We’ve raised a lot, and a lot of it, unfortunately, came from me. What am I going to do?” Trump told supporters at a rally Tuesday.
“But a lot of it came from small donors. We’re averaging $61 a shot and we raised millions. We’re going to be reporting a very big number tomorrow,” Trump said. Campaign fundraising numbers are due to come out Wednesday.
Trump raised $128 million in July, compared to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s $327 million raised in the same time period, according to The Hill.
The Clinton campaign reported it raised $140 million for the month of August, with only $62 million of that haul going directly to fund the campaign.
Trump used his self-funding efforts in the rally, telling supporters, “She just does whatever her donors and special interest donors want her to do.”
