A new video produced by the military blog Task & Purpose makes fun of crusaders who obsess far more about stolen valor than is necessary.

The video features Jack Mandaville and Patrick Baker, both from Ranger Up Military and MMA Apparel.

In the clip, a veteran comes out from behind a tree after sniffing out a possible case of stolen valor before confronting a man wearing military fatigues.

“You like that jacket?” Baker asks the man aggressively.

“You know my brothers died in that jacket,” he adds.

He then looks through the man’s supposed Medal of Honor and Purple Heart awards, before saying, “Everything about you is a disgusting piece of human garbage waste. I’m gonna make you fuckin’ famous bro, and then I hope they execute your ass.”

Mandaville then comes onto the scene to calm Patrick down.

“Pat, you were a water tech. Nothing about your service was that special, so you need to let it go, buddy. Also, it’s very clear that this gentleman is mentally deranged, so just be the bigger man, okay?”

Baker then apologizes and says he was perhaps wound up too far because he suspects his brother is having sex with his wife.

The point of the video is to provide an avenue for one segment of the military to chastise the other for getting too caught up in catching and exposing those pretending to have served. In fact, the culture of calling out stolen valor has gotten so far out of hand that a growing number of real veterans are being dragged into the hysteria, as in the case of Robert D. Ford, a Marine veteran who was denigrated as a fake after he played the bugle for a wreath ceremony while in dress uniform.

Ford’s case adds to the very long list of genuine veterans wrongly exposed as frauds, and the video is an attempt at poking fun at the phenomenon in such a way as to discourage future crusaders from taking themselves too seriously.
