Former GOP nominee Mitt Romney is set to campaign with Arizona Sen. John McCain Thursday in an attempt to get out the vote ahead of election day.
While McCain has a slight edge on his Democratic opponent, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, the five-term senator has not slowed down his efforts to ensure a win.
The rally is set to take place at the Cubs Spring Training Park in Mesa, Ariz., at 5:30 p.m.
This is the second time the former Massachusetts governor has come out to campaign with the man who beat him in the 2008 GOP presidential primary — Romney went out to Mesa in December to endorse the candidate.
Both former nominees have had contentious relationships with 2016 GOP nominee Donald Trump throughout the election cycle.
McCain endorsed the billionaire after much hesitation in August, despite Trump criticizing his military service, but retracted his support after a 2005 tape leaked showing the candidate making lewd comments about women.
Romney, who Trump dubbed a “stone cold loser,” refused to throw his support behind the nominee, saying he couldn’t put his name “down as someone who voted for principles that suggest racism or xenophobia, misogyny, bigotry.”
The rift between McCain and Trump does not seem to be negatively impacting either of the candidates in the state — Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is trailing by two points in the state while Kirkpatrick is down by 5 percent, according to the latest YouGov/CBS News polls.
