A 26-year police veteran of the Chicago police force paid for sex with underage teenage girls, a criminal complaint reveals.

Officer William Whitley appeared in court Wednesday for a hearing in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez following his arrest Tuesday, reports the Chicago Tribune.

One of the victims, a 14-year-old girl in braces, told authorities that Whitley paid to have sex with her, prosecutors maintained. She initially told Whitley that she was 23.

According to prosecutors, Whitley did not tell the girl he was a cop at first. The girl alleges that they had sex in his room with his uniform hanging on his door and his handgun underneath the pillow.

“Eventually, however, Whitley told Minor A that he was a police officer, and bragged about being a police officer. In addition, Minor A stated that Whitley often wore a gold chain around his neck that had [a] gold medallion with a Chicago Police Department logo on it,” court papers said.

The investigation revealed the girl possessed six photos of herself and another girl in inappropriate positions together on his bed. The leopard spotted sheets shown in the photo matched the ones found in Whitley’s bedroom.

The complaint does not accuse Whitley of pimping the young girl, but did claim that Whitley attended parties that operated as a sex ring where older men went and paid to have sex with younger girls.

If convicted of sex trafficking of a minor, Whitley could face a mandatory minimum of 10 years in jail to life in prison. He also faces charges for the production of child pornography.

“Upon learning of the investigation, the officer was immediately relieved of his police powers pending the court’s actions.  CPD continues to cooperate fully with our federal partners in this case,” Chicago Police Department spokesperson Frank Giancamilli.
