Remember when you were supposed to care what some mediocre NFL quarterback did during the National Anthem? Well, he’s not gonna do that anymore.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will stand during the national anthem next season, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
Kaepernick no longer wants his method of protest to detract from the positive change he believes has been created, sources told ESPN. He also said the amount of national discussion on social inequality — as well as support from other athletes nationwide, including NFL and NBA players — affirmed the message he was trying to deliver.
In other words, he’s milked all possible good publicity out of it, and now it’s just hurting his career. But hey, at least he got everybody to fight over something stupid and meaningless. People will take any opportunity they can get to do that.
America will muddle through, whether some stupid football player respects it or not. Kaepernick can stand, kneel, or curl up in a fetal position. The rest of us will be just fine regardless.
