“Many are injured in the face, and all are in hospital,” said Nathalie Crespin, spokeswoman for the Paris fire brigade, as reported by Ireland’s Independent. She added that five of the injured were “in a very bad way.”

The explosion took place in the Parisian northeastern suburb of Villepinte, near Charles de Gaulle airport. Authorities have described the event as “accidental” and do not suspect terrorism.

The person who lit the effigy alight was thrown several feet into the air, according to one witness. Another said they saw a child “screaming and covered in blood.”
