Political statistician Nate Silver ordered Democratic Georgia congressional candidate Jon Ossoff to stop using his name in fundraising emails in a Tweet Monday evening.
Ossoff sent a fundraising email to supporters that argued Silver had claimed Ossoff’s win was the only way for Democrats to retake the house in the 2018 midterm elections.

The email uses the phrase “shocking announcement” to assert the owner of statistics site 538 worded the statement in a way that revealed him to be a Democrat.
“If Democrats want to take back the House, We MUST win the Georgia special election,” the Ossoff campaign alleged Silver said.
Nate Silver retweeted the assertion, adding, “Making shit up that @natesilver never said.”

Ossoff dominates in fundraising, announcing he raised over $8.3 million in the first quarter of 2017. He also leads by a wide margin in recent polling. Despite those advantages, he misled voters about his national security credentials, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
