President Donald Trump tweeted Sunday about a supporter’s new book, his proposed border wall, and trade deals, while parts of Texas face catastrophic flooding.
Hurricane Harvey struck the Gulf Coast of Texas Friday night and now continues to drench the state in rain. ABC reported that at least three people have died so far due to the storm, and rain is expected to continue through Wednesday with historic levels of flooding in Houston.
President Trump, however, was not entirely focused on this natural disaster. “A great book by a great guy, highly recommended!” Trump wrote in his first tweet Sunday in a promotion of a new book by Trump supporter Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.
He then wrote a series of tweets about the rescue effort. “Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground,” Trump tweeted.
Mixed within these tweets about the storm were off topic messages. After Trump said he will visit Texas when the time is right, he tweeted, “I will also be going to a wonderful state, Missouri, that I won by a lot in ’16. Dem [Claire McCaskill] is opposed to big tax cuts. Republican will win S!”
He later wrote, “With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other.” And in a related tweet, Trump stated, “We are in the NAFTA (worst trade deal ever made) renegotiation process with Mexico & Canada.Both being very difficult,may have to terminate?”
