California Sen. Dianne Feinstein received boos from a San Francisco audience on Tuesday after she said that it was possible for President Trump to become “a good president.”
During a Q&A session at the Commonwealth Club, Feinstein was asked whether she believed that Republicans in Congress “will definitively turn against President Trump” by criticizing him publicly and urging him to resign from office.
The audience was not pleased with Feinstein’s response.
“Look, this man is going to be president most likely for the rest of this term. I just hope he has the ability to learn and change, and if he does, he can be a good president,” Feinstein responded.
The Democrat received a smattering of boos from the liberal crowd.
“I understand how you feel. I understand how you feel,” Feinstein responded.
But Feinstein didn’t back away, reacting to a question about why Democrats aren’t being more out front in attacking Trump by reminding people that not only is Trump president, but he’s also only been in office for eight months.
“We’ll have to see if he can forget himself enough and have the type of empathy and direction the country needs,” the continued, adding that if Trump doesn’t shape up, “there are things that can be done.”
