A man tragically fell to his death from a bridge Monday after proposing to his girlfriend.

A 32-year-old Japanese man fell from the Irabu Bridge in Okinawa, Japan, Monday morning, reported JapanToday. The man was drinking and accidentally slipped off the bridge moments after his girlfriend said yes, according to police reports.

The man fell off the 89-foot bridge when he ecstatically leaped off the railing to the other side, however, he lost his balance and fell into the ocean, reported ASIAONE Tuesday.

His girlfriend called the police and they launched a search for his body in the ocean. At 7:00 a.m. the man was reported dead at a hospital.

The Irabu bridge opened in 2015 and this is the first fatality.
