President Donald Trump likes dealing with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi because they don’t use Washington jargon, Politico reports.

The president enjoys working with Democratic leadership because they speak in non-Washington terms, according to sources who spoke with Politico. Trump plans on working with the pair in the coming months.

Trump made headlines after he sided with Schumer and Pelosi at an Oval Office meeting in early September. Both Republican and Democratic leadership at the meeting were going to agree to disagree on the debt ceiling and government funding, when the president unexpectedly sided with the Democrats.

Instead of aligning with members of his own party and his administration, Trump agreed Wednesday afternoon to raise the debt limit and fund the federal government through mid-December, allowing members of Congress to deal with the federal budget in the coming months.

The president reportedly loved the press he got after he struck the deal with Democratic leadership, and is looking to keep up the bipartisanship as the administration pushes tax reform. Trump opened a meeting with the House Problem Solvers caucus Wednesday to ask that the group work with Democrats on tax reform. The president said he wants them “to give this a try and see if it works.”

Trump himself is no stranger to the Democratic party, and notably donated around $9,000 to Schumer’s campaigns over the years.
