An Ohio man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Tuesday for raping his 63-year-old mother, blaming his actions on blacking out and not knowing what he was doing.

The 46-year-old defendant, unidentified to protect his mother’s identity, got into a heated argument with his mother in March and began raping her, according to court documents. The man also attacked her by dragging her around the home and punching her face and body.

His mother tried to escape the assault by running naked to a neighbor’s home, but her son caught her and “threw her over a fence back to their yard,” according to assistant prosecutor Anne Flanagan. She suffered a fractured vertebra in her neck and bite marks to her inner thighs and back. Despite this trauma, the defendant’s mother chose to not be involved in the case due to “affection for her son”.

The man originally pleaded guilty to the charges; however, he changed his mind and tried to take his plea back from the judge, saying “Not guilty. I take my plea back. I want to go to trial with this … It’s all bogus and lies.”

He then went on to blame the incident on getting “blacked out”.

“This is a bad situation. I feel bad about the whole incident. But I don’t even know what happened. I blacked out, somebody slipped me something in my drink. I don’t even know what was going on. I just don’t know,” he told the judge.

Prosecutors dropped the original charges of attempted rape and abduction in exchange for him pleading guilty.
