New York Times reporter Nicholas Confessore said Wednesday that the DNC-funded dossier is a “mirror image” of Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer.
Democrats accused Trump Jr. of colluding with the Russian government through the meeting, which he says was to collect dirt on then-candidate Hillary Clinton. However, Confessore said that the DNC and the Clinton campaign paying for a dossier written by an ex-British agent is a “mirror image” of that meeting.
“It’s kind of a mirror image, and look, parties engage in opposition research all the time–admittedly, this is an extreme example to hire a former intelligence agency,” Confessore said of the dossier. “But these firms like Fusion GPS are there because there is a market for them.”
“This is a common part of politics–what’s more exotic this time is that the kinds of things that are being tracked down in the dossier and in the reports are partly unconfirmed and taking place in a foreign country,” he explained.
