George H.W. Bush has apologized through his spokesman after two women have accused the former president of groping him and the response suggests that these women are making a big deal out of nothing.

Earlier this week an actress by the name of Heather Lind claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that Bush touched her from behind and told her a “dirty joke” while they were being photographed. On Wednesday another actress named Jordana Grolnick said she saw Lind’s story and claims her experience with Bush was “entirely similar.”

In response to the groping claims by the two women, a spokesman of the former president issued an apology to Deadspin.

“At age 93, President Bush has been confined to a wheelchair for roughly five years, so his arm falls on the lower waist of people with whom he takes pictures,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.

McGrath also addressed the joke the two women referenced which involves the punchline “David Cop-a-feel.”

“To try to put people at ease, the president routinely tells the same joke–and on occasion, he has patted women’s rears in what he intended to be a good-natured manner. Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate. To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely,” the statement concludes.
