A Baltimore police officer talked down a knife-wielding man attempting to commit suicide-by-cop, as see in intense body camera footage Wednesday.

Maryland Officer Angel Villaronga responded to a call of man with a knife threatening to hurt someone in September. When he arrived on scene, the man immediately began asking to be killed, WBALTV reported Wednesday.

“Why don’t ya’ll want to shoot me man?” the man asks in the video. “I don’t wanna live no more.”

“Because we don’t want to,” Villaronga said. “Can you just talk to me man?”

“Come on man. Just do what ya’ll do. Just do your job man,” the man asks.

Villaronga claims that its his job to save the man’s life, the man fires back.

“I can talk to you,” Villaronga says. “Look, I’m 38 years old. I can relate to you bro. There is not a thing in this world that I have not probably dealt with, that you have dealt with, OK? At the end of the day, I’ve got kids to go home to.”

This was not Villaronga’s first encounter with attempted suicide. At the age of 13, he helped police officers talk his own father out of jumping off and New York City high-rise.

The man finally gives Villaronga the knife.

Villaronga has not seen the man since the incident, but would welcome the opportunity to meet him again.
