The New York Giants benched starting quarterback and Super Bowl champion Eli Manning Tuesday.
Several different reports announced the news that Manning was headed to the bench, and backup Geno Smith would take over against the Oakland Raiders.

Manning also seemed extremely emotional while discussing the decision with the media. He was clearly visible shaken by losing his starting job.

The Giants season is a lost cause at this point, but benching a guy who won your organization two Super Bowls for Geno Smith is mind-boggling. This is the type of decision that costs coaches their jobs.
Of course, head coach Ben McAdoo might already think he’s going to be shown the door. He might as well burn it all to the ground if he thinks he’s going to get fired no matter what.
