USA Gymnastics banned one of its most elite coaches over sexual misconduct allegations, according to a Tuesday report.

Todd Gardiner, 61, a former coach for the Illinois Gymnastics Institute, was placed on a list of coaches permanently ineligible to participate with gymnasts, reported The New York Post. His ban follows an investigation which showed that he violated the code of ethics by having a sexual relationship with an unnamed athlete.

“An individual is placed on the list based on a complaint and following an investigation and hearing process,” USA Gymnastics said in a statement. “Each accused member has the right and opportunity to participate in the investigation and hearing process. An individual (on the list) may not be employed by or associate in any way with a USA Gymnastics member club, nor may he/she participate in any USA Gymnastics-sanctioned event.”

USA Gymnastics sets the standard for policies that rule the sport, including those used for Olympic athletes. The organization previously banned Dr. Larry Nassar for allegedly molesting gymnasts. Nassar was sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography.
