Former Watergate Assistant Special Prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks said on MSNBC Friday that Republicans are trying to “divert attention” from the Russia investigation by focusing on Hillary Clinton over Trump.

Watch:

“Hard to know exactly why but over the last two weeks, with the Flynn guilty plea coming out, there has been a much more vociferous Republican set of counter-attacks,” started MSNBC host Ari Melber.

“I think the closer that Mueller gets to the president, and the more he shows that there is crimes that are worth pursuing, the more the Republicans are trying to shut it down. They are trying to divert attention following the Trump model by saying let’s investigate Hillary Clinton and let’s not investigate this,” Wine-Banks replied. “That’s typical of the trump tactics, and the Republicans are falling for it.”

FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was heavily involved in both the Clinton and Trump campaign investigations, was recently exposed for explicit anti-Trump bias in text messages sent to his mistress, FBI lawyer Lisa Page, which seem to have influenced his work in each investigation.

Bruce Ohr, previous assistant deputy attorney general for the Justice Department, was demoted due to his meetings with Christopher Steele, the British FBI agent who provided information for the salacious anti-Trump dossier. His wife worked for Fusion GPS, the organization that supported research for the dossier.
