Nikki Haley Lays Down Law To UN On Anti-US Jerusalem Vote
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivered a stark message to nations considering a vote to urge the U.S. not to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Foreign Policy reports.
The UN General Assembly will vote Thursday on the resolution, prompting intense backlash from the U.S. delegation. “The President will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us. We will take note of each and every vote on this issue,” Haley told other member nations in an email, adding, “as you consider your vote, I want you to know that the President and U.S. take this vote personally.”
Haley echoed the message in a tweet late Tuesday, saying, “the US will be taking names” during the Thursday vote.
At the UN we’re always asked to do more & give more. So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American ppl, abt where to locate OUR embassy, we don’t expect those we’ve helped to target us. On Thurs there’ll be a vote criticizing our choice. The US will be taking names. pic.twitter.com/ZsusB8Hqt4

The UN vote is prompted by President Donald Trump’s Dec. 6 decision to begin proceedings moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to the city of Jerusalem and officially recognizing the city as the country’s capital.
Jerusalem’s status has long been a matter of contention between Israel and Palestinian groups. U.S. law, however, has dictated since 1995 that the embassy must be moved to Jerusalem and every president since Bill Clinton has pledged to follow through on the move.
“If the movement of an American Embassy that was signaled more than 20 years ago is enough to scuttle peace talks, then maybe the basis for peace doesn’t yet exist,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board poignantly observed.
