Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Pavin Smith gave his parents the gift of a lifetime for Christmas.

Smith, who received a $5 million signing bonus, posted a video of his parents on Christmas reading a letter he wrote about how grateful he was for his upbringing. It ended with him paying off his parents’ house.

He captioned the video, “Thank you for everything you have done for me! This doesn’t make up for any of it. Love you both so much. Our home is finally all YOURS. Merry Christmas!”

Is it just me or is it extremely dusty in here?

How could you watch that video and not have your heartstrings get pulled at? What an incredible thing for Smith to do for his family.

There are countless stories about bonehead athletes doing stupid things. I have a strong feeling we’re not going to be reading any stories like those about Smith. Lots of athletes have different motivations for wanting to make the pros. It’s great to see one whose apparent top priority was taking care of his parents and family.
