Shortly after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, media members began actively wondering why he didn’t mention the Russia investigation.
President Richard Nixon infamously referenced Watergate during one of his State of the Union addresses, and the media began wondering why Trump wasn’t referencing the investigation into his own campaign.

NBC’s Brian Williams brought up Russia during a post-SOTU interview, prompting Andrea Mitchell to take the bait and suggest that Russia is “overhanging everything.”

.@GayleKing on President Trump’s first #SOTU: There was no mention of Russia or the investigation.

“Nothing on Vlad or the investigation,” investigative reporter Christopher Heath.
“Around the world, we face rogue regimes, terrorist groups, and rivals like China and Russia that challenge our interests, our economy and our values.”
That was it. Nothing on Vlad or the investigation.— Christopher Heath (@CHeathWFTV) January 31, 2018
Rebecca Ballhaus wondered if the SOTU address was the longest that Trump has spoken without trying to debunk the Russia investigation.
That speech, at an hour and 20 minutes, may be the longest we’ve heard Trump speak in the last year without a mention of the Russia investigation. No “no collusion,” no “witch hunt.” https://t.co/SCSbt5eQrT

Trump called out human rights and rogue regimes of Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea, but not Putin’s Russia, the only one that has actually attacked the United States.

“I found the truth lacking in the State of the Union tonight … I think we need to speak truth about Russia.” @KamalaHarris on MSNBC is not here for these games.

“Trump completely ignored the elephant in the room — the Russia scandal,” Lynnette Khalfani Cox asserted.
Who said anything about Hillary? Actually, I was pointing out that Trump completely ignored the elephant in the room — the Russia scandal, not to mention he’s done ZERO to prevent Russia from hurting America’s democracy/voting process in the future https://t.co/mXAJoefOTs

Democrat Mike Quigley even got in on the Russia action, along with the Pennsylvania Senate Democrats.
No mention of gun violence prevention. No mention of the sexual assault epidemic. No mention of Russia. #SOTU

That’s right folks. Not A SINGLE mention of Russia during the entire #StateOfTheUnion.
It OK, GOP. Keep your eyes closed and your heads in the sand.
