Johnny Manziel’s self-imposed deadline to sign in the CFL is today, and apparently he’s not even close to coming to a deal with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

TSN reported the following:

According to TSN’s Farhan Lalji, Hamilton offered Manziel a contract in the range of $150,000 with some minor incentives, but Manziel’s camp is looking for something in the range of $500,000.

Lalji adds that the Ticats are not feeling any pressure to strike a deal of this magnitude with Manziel, but the team continues to be optimistic that Johnny Football will be a member of the Tiger-Cats for the 2018 season. However, coming to terms on a contract might take right up until training camp.

Well, this isn’t great news for the #ComebackSZN. Being $350,000 apart on a deal is a very large gap, especially when we’re talking about contracts that aren’t even in the millions of dollars. Johnny Football wants nearly triple what the Ti-Cats are offering, and they should give it to him. He’ll be the biggest name to ever play in the CFL.

However, the same TSN report also indicates that Jon Gruden and the Raiders might give Manziel another look. I hope that’s true. Going straight back to the NFL would be incredible, and Gruden would be the kind of guy to give him the job.

“I was a cold dude I’m getting back to my ways…”

#ComebackSZN might be dead or on life support north of the beautiful American border, but we’re only one tick away from Gruden giving our guy a second chance. Now that’s something we can all get behind.

Manziel would make one hell of a great Gruden Grinder.
