The College Basketball Season Wasn’t Perfect, But It Was Fun

It’s time to look back at the past season of college basketball, and realize that it was a pretty fun year.

College basketball is something that millions of people all over the country wait for throughout the year. It’s a bloodline of excitement, fun, energy and water cooler conversations.

Hundreds of teams start the season with dreams of hoisting up a national championship trophy. This year only Villanova finished off the year holding the most coveted trophy in all of college basketball.

This was a very strange year for me. Usually, I kick back and celebrate Wisconsin’s success as they cruise to the tournament. It’s usually clockwork, and unpredictable. It just happens. That was obviously not the case this year. Wisconsin had the worst year in my lifetime, and it wasn’t really close. They were awful, but the future is bright.

Knowing that Wisconsin wouldn’t make the tournament gave me the opportunity to emotionally remove myself from the season, and observe as an unbiased fan. It was a refreshing experience, and I had a lot of fun watching games just to see some basketball. Turns out that not every game has to nearly give you a heart attack. Sometimes you can just crack beers and throw them back for no other reason that to crush some brews for basketball. That’s what America is all about.

Hopefully by guys in the white and red will bounce back next season. I think they’re going to make some serious noise. I’m not glad we had a terrible year, but I’m glad I got to see things through an unfiltered view.

We also all got to see Loyola’s incredible run. I think the entire country unified behind the Ramblers, and we remembered that cheering for the underdog is about as American as you can get.

Was this the best year of college basketball? No, I’d be lying if I tried to pretend that it was. However, I still had a lot of fun, drank a few beers, spent time with good friends for the games and got to see another group of young men grow up on the court. At the end of the day that’s all you can really ask for.
