Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially took on new roles Monday ahead of their royal wedding.

“As I travel around the Commonwealth in my work on behalf of the Royal Family, it is striking so see how different this generation of young adults are. You are connected, you have made positive use of technology to build relationships within your communities, nations and across the globe,” the member of the royal family shared as he announced that he and Markle will now serve as Commonwealth Youth Ambassadors. (SLIDESHOW: 18 Times Meghan Markle Already Looked Like A Royal)

“You care, you want your nations to be cleaner, your planet to be greener, your friends and neighbors to be treated fairly and with respect, no matter their ethnicity, their religion, or their status,” he added.

“In my new role, I will work to support The Queen, my father The Prince of Wales, and my brother William, all of whom know that young people are the answer to the challenges of today,” he continued. “I am also incredibly grateful that the woman I am about to marry, Meghan, will be joining me in this work, of which she too is hugely excited to take part in.”

Prince Harry broke the news at the Commonwealth Youth Forum in London, which is part of a larger week-long event that brings together leaders from 53 nations that were previously part of the British empire.

Though Markle was not at the event on Monday, she is expected to join Harry on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Youth Forum reception.

The royal wedding takes place at St. George’s chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19.
