Despite his current policy of blocking President Trump’s picks for executive agencies, Sen. Chuck Schumer once thought POTUS “deserves” to have his picks be confirmed.

In 2013, the Democrat from New York said on the Senate floor that he thinks the president should be able to stack the executive agencies however he chooses.

“Who in America doesn’t think a president, Democrat or Republican, deserves his or her picks for who should run the agencies?” Schumer said.

His words stand in stark contrast to how he is currently treating picks from Presiden Donald Trump. Sen. Tom Cotton and Schumer reportedly got into a heated debate on the Senate floor over Democrats delaying the confirmation of Mike Pompeo for secretary of state. Last July, Schumer tried to block Department of Defense nominee Patrick Shanahan, forcing the Republicans to file cloture to end a filibuster.

Democrats’ signature move has been to require hours of floor debate before even bringing nominees to a vote.
