Greg Thomas, campaign manager for failed West Virginia U.S. Senatorial candidate Don Blankenship, insisted that Blankenship will “make sure” his Republican rival will not become U.S. Senator Thursday.

“First of all, he said he wasn’t going to,” said Thomas, recounting a time when he made similar statements at a Lincoln Day dinner on Talkline with Hoppy Kerchval.

“I think the one thing that he is going to make sure doesn’t happen is that Patrick Morrisey doesn’t make U.S. Senator,” Thomas stated.

Blankenship is also floating the idea of supporting a third-party candidate in the West Virginia race. The two front-runners are incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin and Republican candidate Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, who won the West Virginia primary Tuesday.

“Don Blankenship does not believe it should be Patrick Morrisey and he doesn’t believe it should be Joe Manchin,” who should win the race, said Thomas. Instead, Blankenship “is going to do everything he can to make sure West Virginians get a Senator they deserve.”

President Trump reportedly called Blankenship after his loss, speaking only briefly but politely with the former candidate.

Blankenship had previously called himself “Trumpier than Trump.”
