MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace apologized Friday for comments she made about choking White House press secretary Sarah Sanders Friday.

Sanders answered a question on a White House aide’s disparaging comments of Arizona Sen. John McCain during the daily press briefing Friday, mentioning the president “supports all Americans” and touted the president’s other achievements.

Wallace commented on Sanders’ response in a graphic way on her Friday show.

“Kristen Welker, how do you resist the temptation to run up and wring her neck?” Wallace said. “Why can’t she just say, ‘If a staffer said that, we’re going to get to the bottom of it, and she’ll be fired?'”

“I think a lot of people were surprised,” responded NBC News White House Correspondent Kristen Welker, saying that she expected a more direct answer.

Wallace later apologized for the comments.
